Cheater Apple Dumplings

I haven’t had my camera for a few weeks now, but I’d been doing pretty good remembering to take pictures with my iphone.  Unfortunately, the last few yummy things I’ve made haven’t been photographed before being consumed.  This is one of those things, so here is the picture from The Pioneer Woman’s website, where I got this delicious recipe.

I usually make fun of recipes like this that use pre-prepared foods like canned crescent rolls.  And Mountain Dew…what is this all about?  But these looked and sounded too good to shun on the basis of a few ingredients.

With the help from my good friend Carrie, we changed a few things in the recipe, like the amount of butter and sugar as well as slicing the apples in thinner slices.  These dumplings are ridiculously easy to put together and also ridiculously delicious.  I served them with Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.  You might get weak in the knees when you eat these, so be careful.

Apple Dumplings

  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 2 cans crescent rolls
  • 1 stick butter
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 small can Mountain Dew (8 oz.)

Cut apples into  thin slices. Roll a few apple slices in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.
