Happy 1st Birthday, Carson!

I remember a year ago today perfectly.  At exactly this time 1 year ago, Carson wasn’t officially here yet.  We were at BSA, and had been there since about 7am.  Carson didn’t arrive until 9:58pm.  People always make a terrible face when I tell them this.  You were in labor ALL DAY?  We went to the hospital earlier than we needed to.  Ben was supposed to lead worship at church that morning, so we went early just to see if I was really in labor, and I was.  We were in the very early stages, but they kept me there anyway.  So my time in the hospital was long, but not bad.  It was actually a blessing that it took so long because that gave Ben’s parents and my mom time to drive up from Austin.  Carson knew that he should take his time so that his grandparents would get to see him when he got here.  Smart kid.

This morning after Carson’s bottle I thought, “This morning is missing something”.  It’s his birthday, and even though I know he won’t remember a thing about it, I will.  My family always did breakfast in bed on someone’s birthday.  Carson almost always wakes up before me, and breakfast in bed for a 1 year old sounds really messy, so I decided that a special breakfast would do.  I amazingly had what I needed for pancakes, so I whipped up a little batch and made some miniature pancakes.

He ate 2 out of the 5 in this stack.  So I ate one and we’re saving the rest for tomorrow.

He liked them.

His doctor’s appointment isn’t until tomorrow, so we’ll see how he’s doing in growth and development.  But I can already tell you that he is gaining weight like crazy, moving around quickly and “talking” like it’s going out of style.  I am so thankful for him and the blessing he’s already been in our lives after just 1 short year!  Happy birthday, little man.
