We had our 15 month check up last week with our new pediatrician here in Houston. She was wonderful and made me feel better about Carson’s head being in the 81st percentile. He weighs 25 pounds (58%) and is 30 inches tall (25%).
I feel like I can’t keep up with every funny and entertaining thing Carson does. When he does something cute I find myself wishing I’d had my camera out and then spend the next 20 minutes trying to get him to do it again and trying to capture it, which is almost always unsuccessful. But I will try to at least list the things he is doing these days and include some pictures.
The boy loves the dishwasher. I have to be really clever about when I load or empty it. If he’s around he wants to “help” me by taking out utensils and throwing them on the floor, or by getting up in it and hanging out.
Every kid has a photo in the dishwasher. Here is one of Ben.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m going to talk about it again because it has just been so wonderful. I made Carson his own little book nook. It’s just a small shelf where I put some of his books and a basket of little toys, all of which he can pull off, play with, throw around, etc. without me saying “No” or taking him away from it. When he started showing a love for my cookbook shelf, and tearing the cover of one of my favorites, I knew he needed his own space. Most of the time all I have to say is, “Where are Carson’s books?” and he heads over there to find one he wants to read. Best idea I’ve ever had.
Having books within easy reach has increased his desire for me to read to him. He finds one and walks over to me, holding it in the air and making a noise that I think means “Read this is me now or I’ll get louder about it and you won’t be able to resist me!”. Every time we finish he holds it up and says something that I know must mean “Again!” His favorite books and ones that he seems to pull off the shelf more often than any others are “Goodnight Moon” and a dinosaur counting book. There are a few books that I do not like reading and I have developed very negative feelings toward, and those have since been taken off the shelf. If he stops me in the kitchen and I just kneel down on the floor to read he’ll back up into me and try to sit in my lap. It is pretty adorable.
Ben and Carson have some bonding time every night. I go work on dinner while they sit on the couch for a while (although sitting for very long is getting harder for Carson). Last week they were sitting together and Carson looked up at Ben and said “Dada” then “Ni Ni” and then he laid his head on Ben’s arm and put his fingers in his mouth.
Carson is talking a lot of gibberish. He does say Mama, Dada, Ball, Button, Bye Bye, Hi, Ni Ni and then a few words that all kind of sound the same to me, but mean totally different things to Carson. I really like when he sits and plays and talks to himself, or to his toys. He uses a lot of inflection. Here he is showing off some animal sounds and “Tick Tock” that Ben taught him from Goodnight Moon. He’s a little distracted by the fact that I turned the iphone camera around so he could see himself. Can you tell how cute he thinks he is?
He is a terrific walker and pretty much gets wherever he wants to go, even if it means moving furniture that I’ve put somewhere specifically for the purpose of keeping him from something. His biggest temptation is the entertainment center. We are ready to buy something with doors so that he can’t record shows, open the dvd player or turn the speakers off.
He throws a ball (and sometimes other things that he shouldn’t throw).
He likes to make messes.
He chases Ginger, and she kind of chases him back.
He and Daddy play chase, too.
He steals food from your plate, especially if you have french fries.
He is practicing knowing and naming people in pictures. I have pictures of family on the fridge and during meal times I’ll point to people and say their names. So far most people are Dada, but occasionally he will say Mama for me.
He likes bubble bath time.
He likes bread. Any kind, anytime.
And here are some shots from about a month ago when I had my good camera, which is now back in my possession! When I loaded the photos onto my computer I’d forgotten we even took these. I love all of his different faces.

What a little man! Carrie, you’ve outdone yourself with this baby update. Highly informative and very entertaining. Thanks so very much for capturing this precious history and sharing it with us.
You know, I had him pegged as a dishwasher kind of guy.
LOVE! If he’s like Ben was pretty soon he’ll be crying and saying “NOOO!” when you tell him to say bye-bye.
I absolutely adore al of his different faces. Thomas likes the last one the best but I like the first and third the best, trust me it was very hard to pick a favorite!!!!!
