As I write this post, Ben and Carson are on their way to the lake. I am home by myself with Ginger and it is strange. I was listening to music while I was frosting cookies for a baby shower I am helping to throw for a friend and more than once I thought, “I should turn this down, Carson might wake up.” But he’s not here. No one will be here until tomorrow afternoon. I kind of don’t know what to do with myself. I’ve already organized Carson’s closet, finished the cookies and put a load of laundry in. I feel like I should take advantage of my time alone, I’m just not sure what to do! It’s too much pressure.
Before they got on the road Carson was getting sleepy. Here he is with Ben. I think I know where Carson got his lashes…
Last week Carson and I left Ben alone for a few days. We drove to Dallas on Wednesday to visit my sisters. My sister Lisa came into town on her way to vacation in Mexico so that she could drop my niece Maren off with my parents. Lindsey had to work on Friday, so Lisa and I were going to be in charge of 4 kids. It just so happened that Carson was up multiple times on Thursday night with what I thought was an ear infection. So Carson and I headed to urgent care on Friday morning at 7:30 am, leaving Lisa with 3 kids. Carson had double ear infections and we didn’t get back until 11am. Lisa is a champ. After I got home we went to Lindsey’s in-laws to swim. I don’t know what we were thinking. Thankfully all the kids took naps at the same time and so Lisa and I got to spend a little time lounging by the pool and reading People and Us Weekly. Trash, I know. Here I am with all the sweet babies!
Carson and Lane had a great time playing together, as usual. A lot of the time they would just look at each other and both start cracking up. They did a lot of chasing and screaming. This was the first time I saw them kind of fight. Carson tried to take something from Lane, so Lane pushed him down. At one point I saw Carson almost smack Lane in the face, but Lane was too fast and got out of his way. I know this is not the last we’ve seen of this kind of behavior.

I drove Carson and Maren to Round Rock on Saturday morning. They both took naps for part of the time. The rest of the trip Maren wanted what Carson had, regardless of what it was. When she had the iPad, she wanted Carson’s toy. When Carson had the iPad, she wanted the iPad. I’m surprised I didn’t pull something with the way I was reaching my arms behind me in order to get toys to their proper place. Maren is a doll. She says really adorable things. When I asked her if her milk was good she said, “It’s delicious!”. When I told her we were going to see Grandpa and Mormor she said, “I’m coming Grampa! I’m coming Mormor!” Here are the sweet babies taking their naps.
I dropped Maren off and headed to Kate and Steve’s so that we could all drive out to the lake. We had a really nice couple of days. Carson got to go on the boat and enjoyed “driving” it. He did not like the horn. If we asked him if he wanted to “go beep beep” he always said no.
Pics from the boat.
I wish I’d taken more pictures, and at least one with my good camera. Sometimes I don’t like being that person who’s taking pictures of everything, and sometimes I just don’t want to take pictures. I just want to enjoy what I’m doing. But then I almost always regret not capturing some moment. I did get this pretty sunset and then posted it to Instagram. While taking and posting it, I managed to say something about technology and how we’re too dependent on it and it infiltrates too much of our lives. Ha! I am a walking double standard. Thanks to Papa and Grandma for a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
