Carson: 2 Years

I love this boy.  We both do.  2 is such a fun age, and Carson is truly hilarious.  And he is quite sweet natured.  He likes to give hugs and will usually do it if asked and many times without being prompted.  Sometimes to complete strangers.  At his 2 year well check he was saying “bye” and “hi” to people as they left or came in to the office.  We love him and can’t wait to see how he continues to grow into a little man.

In his new birthday coat.

At his appointment he was in the 91% for weight at 32 pounds.  Height of 36 inches is the 87%.  She said while he is a big kid, his weight to height ratio is good.  He’s on track to be 6 feet tall if you double his height.  But I don’t see that happening.  Based on my and Ben’s height, he should be 5’8″.  I think the nurse didn’t get an accurate measurement since he was squirming like crazy.  We’ll see.

Every single thing they did to check him, including simply standing on a scale, was like torture.  I’d blame it on the fact that he had a bit of a cold, or that I think he’s getting his molars, but really I think he just hates to be messed with.  It was really rough.  And to make it all worse he had to get 3 shots and a finger prick.  I have never held that kid so tight.  He just screamed and fought the entire time.  But when the nurse or the doctor would leave the room he still would sweetly say “bye” through his tears.  Betsy slept through it all.  It was a miracle and the best thing that could have happened to us.

Carson talks a lot, and I’m able to communicate with him fairly well and visa versa.  It’s so nice that he’s able to tell me what he wants or needs instead of me having to guess and him (both of us) getting frustrated.  Although there are some times when I am at a loss.  Today he kept asking for something that sounded like alligator.  I can’t think of a time I’ve talked about alligators, and can’t think of anything on the shows he watches having to do with alligators.  So he just cried about it until something else got his attention.

I need to start writing down the things he says.  Here are some that I can recall.

The other day he pulled two of his cars out from under a pillow and said, “Hey! Good morning, guys!”

I made some cardboard cars for his birthday and we still have one in the living room.  He gets in it, closes the door, and then says “Nice weekend!”  Again, not sure where this came from, but I am sure it’s something we’ve said.

When we ask him where he’s going when he gets in the car he says “post office” and when we ask him what he’s going to do there he says “mail a package.”  I do know where this came from.  In the car a month or so ago I used Siri on my iphone to get directions to the post office.  That began Carson’s obsession with the post office.  When he gets a hold of my phone and manages to get Siri, he asks for the post office.  The part about mailing a package came about when my mom and I went to send something to Aunt Sarah.  My mom told Carson we were going to the post office to mail a package, and that has stuck with him.  It’s amazing to me how doing something, going somewhere or saying something even one time can make such an impression.

Recently when playing with his cars he says he’s going to Gramma’s house.

My parents have a T-Rex toy at their house.  He just called it a dinosaur.  Then my day told him more specifically that it was a T-rex.  He can’t say “x” very well.  So that dinosaur is “t-rekkus”.  It’s pretty cute.  So cute that I don’t even correct him.  I call him t-rekkus, too.  He got Rex from Toy Story for his birthday and he loves him.

We’ve taught/trained him to say “Gig ’em Aggies”.

He has an obsession with cars.  Big time.

So of course his birthday party was car themed.  It was a typical 2-year old’s party.  Kids fighting over new toys, messes made with cake and ice cream, lots of tears and lots of entertainment for the adults.  But it was wonderful.  It was extra special to have both sets of grandparents down.  Aunt Lindsey, and cousins Beckett and Lane even made the trip!  The boys had a blast together.  I am so excited for them to grow up together.  Cousins are special.

Playing basketball.  And dancing.

I was just telling Ben that since I’ve been working on and off on this post for the last 2 weeks I’m having a hard time wrapping it up.  So I’m just going to quit, knowing that I’ve forgotten something, and having to be OK with that.  If I’m not OK with that, I will never finish, and I need to finish.  Here are some of my favorite recent pictures.

An attempt to throw the ball over his head.  He let go too early.

Hiding in the closet.  His newest favorite thing.

This exemplifies Carson.  Always on the move.  The blur in many photos.

Love this boy.
