Watching for Daddy
When I know that Ben is close to being home I start talking to Carson about it. I’ll say, “Guess who’s coming home soon?” or “Let’s go look for daddy!”. He gets real excited and he’ll go look out the front windows. Ginger almost always joins him. He’ll say, “Daddy coming? No, no daddy here.” if he’s not home yet and then when he pulls into the driveway he’ll say, “Daddy home!” and shake his hands excitedly. Today they both took spots in the windows by the front door and I couldn’t resist taking a picture of them. Yes, Carson is shirtless. He had macaroni and cheese for dinner and that shirt needed to go straight into the washing machine.
In all my reading about sleep for 5 month olds I read somewhere that swaddling should usually stop by this point. So I’ve been trying that. Yesterday I put Betsy down for naps 3 times and only 1 of those times did she go to sleep. Ben was the miracle worker and had to go upstairs and repair the damage I’d done! He claims the secret is good swaddling. So today I tried it, despite being told that she is too old to be swaddled. We had a pretty successful day of napping AND she went right to sleep when I put her down for the night at 6. So I’m just going to ignore those anti swaddling types who say that my baby won’t develop properly and do what is best for Betsy and our family, and that is getting good sleep. No one is allowed to say, “I told you so.” when she’s 3 and still crawling…
Betsy had her first experience with rice cereal today. It was really just messy and I’m sure little to none of it was swallowed. She still won’t take a bottle, so moving onto some solids is the only way I will ever be able to leave her with someone for more than 2 hours without her going hungry. I kind of feel like she has me held captive right now. It will be nice when I am not her only option for sustenance.

Great post! It’s good to spend time crawling; it’s supposed to help with reading. That’s what we’ll say when she’s 3 and still crawling.
This is the cutest picture ever Carrie!! Great shot. I love reading these daily snippets. :)
