Pergola: Day 10
All that’s left is to paint and put on the rain shield. I think it will be totally completed by next week. We ate dinner out here tonight. It was lovely.
This morning Carson was in the bathroom with me while I was getting ready. He got one of my curling irons out of the drawer. Whenever he’s playing with something like this we have a talk about not touching it without asking first, what happens when it’s plugged in, that we shouldn’t touch it because it might be hot because we could get hurt, etc. So then we had a little review. Here’s how it went down.
Me: Should we touch the curling iron without asking?
Carson: Nooo.
Me: Should we touch it if it’s plugged in?
Carson: Nooo.
Me: What happens when the curling iron is plugged in?
Carson: Gets hot. I can see fire. Fire in the hole. Cook some chicken. Yum yum.
Ben might be the only one who will understand this without some explanation. When Ben grills he has similar conversations with Carson about why he shouldn’t touch the grill. You can see the flames through a hole that is just about eye level for Carson. So when I started talking about something being hot, his mind went from curling irons to grills. I wish I could spend a day in the mind of a toddler. They’re learning all the time and making all kinds of connections. All I could do after he said this was agree with him and try not to laugh.
