“I’m going to work.”
He says this a lot. Almost always while holding something with a handle, like Ben’s briefcase. I love that he imitates Ben. It makes me smile every time he does it.
Today was pretty typical, but I did learn two very valuable lessons. Mothers of boys, listen up.
- Do not mention Home Depot to your son unless you really think you have time to go to Home Depot.
- Do not go to Lowe’s in Sugar Land if you need to get your son onto a riding lawnmower. They do not have riding lawnmowers, not that I saw anyway. And it caused many tears.
Now to explain. I needed paint, so I thought I’d go to Home Depot, but after I thought more about what else I had to do I decided not to go. But I’d already mentioned going, so when we get in the car all Carson is talking about is the tractors (riding lawnmowers) that we see and I let him get on when we go to Home Depot. Since I’m a sucker I made a special trip but Lowe’s was closer to the other errands I had to run so it seemed to make more sense than Home Depot. When we get there I go to where the riding lawnmowers are at Home Depot and they are not there. I looked a few other places but spending all this time looking was wasting time I needed to go to the grocery store. I tried to convince Carson that it’s just as much fun to look at all the push mowers, weed eaters and leaf blowers. He was not convinced. He kept asking for tractors despite all my attempts at distraction.
He cried when we left and the entire drive to the grocery store. Thankfully we got in a cart at HEB that had steering wheels.
