First time on the potty

Today was full of bodily functions in our house.  If you don’t want to hear about it, then stop reading and go about your business.  Do not say I did not warn you.

Betsy pooped today after not going in 2 days.  So it was a big one.  I don’t put a pad under her anymore because we haven’t had an accident in months.  So as I’m moving the old poopy diaper and putting the new clean one on she poops all over the rug (which is now as clean as it’s ever been, so don’t worry if you come over).  And if this bothers you, just be glad I’m not going into more detail.  Because I could and it is not pretty.

Later in the day Carson was running laps through the kitchen, into the dining room, through the living room and back into the kitchen “chasing” Betsy and screaming like a crazy person.  He stops in the kitchen where I’m cooking, puts his hands on his knees, bends over and lets out a huge…well, you can probably guess what it was.  I ask him if he’d pooped, he says no, and starts running again.  He keeps taking breaks to crouch down and grunt.  I keep asking him about getting a new diaper.  I’m hesitant to change him before he’s finished with his business because of my experience with Betsy earlier.  I give Betsy a bath, then change Carson.  He poops again about 20 minutes later, then again.  I changed more Carson diapers in the last few hours of the day than the first 9 hours of it.

After dinner we’re watching the Astros and Carson says, “I’m gonna go to the bathroom.  I wanna sit on the potty.” and walks into the bathroom.  Ben and I kind of look at eachother and Ben asks me if he’s ever done that before, which he hasn’t.  I proceed carefully and ask him if he wants to sit on his little potty.  He says yes, I get it out and he sits on it.  He doesn’t want to take his diaper off, but he does sit on it, and that has never happened before.  After a while I take him into our bathroom for a bath.  I bring the potty with me and ask him again as I’m filling up the tub if he wants to sit on it without the diaper.  And he does it.  I tell him that if he goes pee pee I’ll give him a cookie.  And he tries so very hard!  And he does end up going a little so we all celebrate and go get a cookie.  After the bath he says he wants to sit on the potty again, so we set it up in front of the TV and hang out for a little bit.  He didn’t end up going again, but this was a huge step towards potty training.
