Obsessed with toilet paper and flushing

Recently I started pushing the potty a little more.  It’s hard not to feel pressure when your kid is almost 3 and every other 3 year old boy you know is either potty trained or working on it and making great strides.  So I thought we might encourage him a little.  I’m not forcing him to sit on it, but we bought a pack of big boy underwear (He chose Thomas the Train) and a special potty seat (Lightning McQueen) and some incentive toys (a John Deere tractor and a laughing Elmo).  And I bribe him with candy.  If he so much as sits on the potty he gets a piece!  And if he pees on the potty he gets one of his special toys.  So far he’s sat on it three times.  One of those times he said afterward, “I get my tractor!”  I said, no buddy, you have to pee on the potty to get the tractor.  He whined for a little while and then as I was putting on his new diaper he says that he wants to pee on the potty.  And he does!  So he got his tractor.  And then I realized, that I can’t give him toys every time he pees on the potty.  So the tractor is now a toy that he only gets to play with if he pees on the potty that day.  Since that rule was made there has been less interest in the potty…he hasn’t even sat on it.  So I’m just going to mention the potty from time to time, maybe move the tractor to a very visible yet unreachable spot in the house and see what develops.
