“Come on, Mom. This is lame.”
Betsy didn’t come right out and say that to me, but I can see it’s what she meant by this look.
I wanted to have family pictures taken for Christmas cards this year. But it’s mid November and the chances of us finding an affordable photographer, finding a time to take them, getting Ben on board with the whole thing, getting pictures back, then having cards printed and in the mail was beyond low. They would’ve been Happy New Year or Happy Valentine’s Day cards instead of Christmas cards. So I thought to myself, “How hard can it be to take pictures? Ben and I won’t be in them, but no one cares about us anyway, they just want to see our kids.” So I decided to do them myself. Other than outfits, I hadn’t thought about what I was going to do or use. So I pulled out a decorative Christmas tree and a big white blanket, set up my camera and brought the kids outside in the back yard. Turns out taking pictures of kids without help is hard. So, that’s why people hire photographers! Betsy wouldn’t stay put. They were doing yard work at the house behind us which distracted both Carson and Betsy. The dogs next door were barking, further distraction. I was frustrated. I’m pretty sure I said/yelled something like, “Why can’t you both just sit there and smile?!” They’re 1 and 3, that’s why. But in the end we got a few really adorable shots. They’re not professional, but they’re cute and I saved some money. One day I will have family pictures taken, maybe when the kids are more capable of sitting still. And Ben, you are going to like it!

That’s a PERFECT Christmas shot! And yes, Ben, you are going to like it!
