The past month has had me in an especially not terrific place when it comes to feeling “good” about how I’m doing life as a wife, mom and friend.  I end the day feeling like I haven’t accomplished a thing.  I also feel guilty about the way I’ve reacted to my kids since I’ve had little to no patience.  Same applies to poor Ben who sees me at my worst when he gets home from work and often bears the brunt of a bad day.  I feel like I am really busy, but I couldn’t tell you with what!  I feel unmotivated and defeated.  Thankfully I talked with a friend recently who is feeling the same way.  Maybe we aren’t yet ready for the humidity of Houston and it is breaking us down and making us feel un-energetic .  Maybe it’s the end of the school year, or stressful summer planning.  I don’t know the culprit for my current rut, but it is a nasty one and I am looking forward to getting out of it!  And I will.  Life is full of ups and downs, and don’t get me wrong, I know that my life is great.  It just feels rough right now.  Please tell me that happens to everyone.  Emotional release over.  Much better.

The problem with getting behind with a blog is that catching up is a…well, you know what it is.  It stinks.  There are photos to go through, way too many photos if you take them like I do.  And memories to access.  And with the way I’ve been feeling the idea of sitting down to get all of that together makes me tired and suddenly I have a headache or I remember that I need to sweep the floors as I step in some crumbs from snack time.  So I am going to do my best to recap the last month!

Christopher:  he is cruising around furniture but not yet walking although he did take a few steps the other day!  He likes to balance standing up, he babbles, he blows raspberries, he laughs at Carson and Betsy and loves to play (as much as he can physically play with them anyway), he is eating a lot, he has stopped nursing and drinks mainly water (I did give him some whole milk the other day) when he is angry, tired, hungry, lonely he lets you know it.  He sleeps through the night.  He takes a morning nap (9 until 10:30 or 11) and an afternoon nap (2 until 3:30 or 4).  He is a happy baby 99% of the time.

Betsy: she is a lot of fun, but has the beginnings of an attitude!  She is not a pleaser like Carson was at her age.  She pushes back quite a bit and doesn’t obey easily (I know this is more a 2 1/2 year old problem and not just Betsy!)  She is a picky eater.  If she could she would drink milk and eat yogurt, bananas, cheese, cheese crackers and fruit snacks for every meal.  She is expressing little interest in the potty, but I am planning to try a little potty training boot camp now that Carson is out of school.  She likes to dress up in tutus and be a princess.  She loves swim class and has overcome her fear of the slide.  She is a nurturer!  She loves Christopher and gives him hugs and kisses often.  She also tries to comfort him when he’s crying by bringing him toys or his pacifier.  She speaks well and I can understand a lot of what she says, but certain words are hard to make out.

Carson: he just finished school and has definitely grown over the past year.  He is better at expressing himself when he gets upset (but sometimes still just screams and can’t find any words).  And I can’t think of any specific examples, but we’ll be sitting around doing something or out somewhere and he’ll surprise me with knowing some piece of information that I am sure he learned at school.  He is a good big brother, but often takes that job too far and bosses everyone around.  The other day he told me, very seriously and sweetly, “Mom, when we get home you really need to apologize to me for taking my legos away.”

And now more photos!  When I originally went through the photos from just after Easter until now I opened up 115 to edit.  So if you think I posted a lot, just think of how bad it could’ve been!

We’ve been spending time outside.  The weather is warm but not too warm, yet…

We spent a weekend in Austin with Kim and Mille, and Jennifer and Henry.  We had a great time.  I am thankful for friends who were great college companions (10 YEARS AGO!) and are now great moms who I admire.  My only complaint is that we do not live closer and see each other more often!

Pitch Perfect 2!!!  It was so very wonderful.

Carson is getting his beginners lessons in steak from Ben.  There is a lucky toddler girl out there who will one day be the one who Carson chooses to grill steaks for :)

The kids started and ended a 2 week swimming boot camp in April and are currently taking more lessons and love the water.
