{"id":1176,"date":"2009-07-23T15:14:30","date_gmt":"2009-07-23T21:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/?p=1176"},"modified":"2009-07-24T18:08:28","modified_gmt":"2009-07-25T00:08:28","slug":"bacon-mushroom-and-spinach-breakfast-strata","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/23\/bacon-mushroom-and-spinach-breakfast-strata\/","title":{"rendered":"Bacon, Mushroom and Spinach Breakfast Strata"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Breakfast is always a bowl of cereal for Ben. \u00a0Not only that, he uses the same bowl and sits in the same spot to eat it every morning. \u00a0I love that about him. \u00a0I usually eat some fruit and yogurt. \u00a0Sometimes I make banana bread and we&#8217;ll eat that for a few days, and if we&#8217;re really getting crazy, scrambled eggs. \u00a0Needless to say, breakfast is not too thrilling around here.<\/p>\n<p>When company comes I tend to get a little excited about breakfast. \u00a0This breakfast strata is very adaptable to anyone&#8217;s personal taste. \u00a0I used bacon, mushrooms, spinach, and a combination of swiss and cheddar cheese. \u00a0Ham would be delicious, or spicy breakfast sausage&#8230;mmmm. \u00a0It would even be great with just vegetables.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1177\" title=\"strata2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/strata2.jpg?resize=300%2C262\" alt=\"strata2\" width=\"300\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/strata2.jpg?resize=300%2C262 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/strata2.jpg?resize=1024%2C896 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/strata2.jpg?w=1200 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are easier overnight breakfast casseroles. \u00a0I made one once that used a box of croutons instead of fresh bread and I&#8217;ve seen recipes that use frozen hash browns. \u00a0I liked that this one was completely from scratch. \u00a0It didn&#8217;t take too long to put it together on Friday night. \u00a0The hard part was getting out of bed early to pre-heat the oven and bake it for an hour and a half. \u00a0But it was worth it.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I used 1% milk and only used 10 eggs&#8230;I dropped 2 and didn&#8217;t have any more, oops! Repeat with another layer of bread and all the toppings, finishing off with the remaining milk and egg mixture.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 10px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 16px;\">Press the mixture down with clean hands until all the bread is soaked. Sprinkle with Mrs.Dash. Place a piece of plastic wrap over the top, press again, and refrigerate the strata at least 8 hours or overnight.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 10px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 16px;\">In the morning, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 65 &#8211; 80 minutes, or until knife comes out clean. Let cool about 15 minutes before serving.
