{"id":158,"date":"2008-08-30T12:47:41","date_gmt":"2008-08-30T18:47:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carrieandben.benzinnecker.com\/blog\/?p=158"},"modified":"2009-12-01T23:17:07","modified_gmt":"2009-12-02T05:17:07","slug":"tiramisu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/2008\/08\/30\/tiramisu\/","title":{"rendered":"Tiramisu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tiramisu1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-156\" title=\"tiramisu1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tiramisu1.jpg?resize=400%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tiramisu1.jpg?w=400 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tiramisu1.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 5th grade teachers planned a little pot-luck lunch this past Friday, and the theme started as Italian so I thought a tiramisu would be a good dessert to bring.\u00a0 This Italian theme changed to salads (pasta salad, fruit salad, etc.) but I had my heart set on tiramisu, so I stuck with it.\u00a0 I began searching for a classic tiramisu recipe.\u00a0 I found a site devoted entirely to tiramisu, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heavenlytiramisu.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">heavenlytiramisu.com<\/a>, which had a plethora of information about the ingredients in tiramisu and many different kinds of recipes.\u00a0 After searching through this site, epicurious and foodnetwork, I chose David Rosengarten&#8217;s recipe for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heavenlytiramisu.com\/rcp-101.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Basic Tiramisu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tiramisu2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-157\" title=\"tiramisu2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tiramisu2.jpg?resize=350%2C404\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tiramisu2.jpg?w=350 350w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tiramisu2.jpg?resize=259%2C300 259w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When you use 2\/3 of a carton of eggs in one recipe, you know you&#8217;re in for something special&#8230;and a little decadent.\u00a0 Did I mention that there is also a cup of heavy cream, and a pound of marscapone in this recipe?\u00a0 I know it seems excessive, but if you&#8217;re going to do it, do it right.\u00a0 This recipe came together fairly quickly, but I did have to use quite a few bowls and make a good sticky mess on the counter.\u00a0 I used frangelico instead of the brandy called for in this recipe.\u00a0 One thing I would change is to make more layers of soaked lady fingers in between the layers of cream.\u00a0 I would also use more shaved chocolate in between each layer.\u00a0 Other recipes I read recommended letting the tiramisu set overnight in the fridge, so that is what I did.\u00a0 I set aside a little bowl for myself at lunch and planned to eat it that night after dinner.\u00a0 It was still pretty tasty, but the ladyfingers had started to disintegrate a little.\u00a0 So, I would not recommend more than 18 hours of sitting time.\u00a0 I think most people enjoyed the tiramisu at our teacher pot-luck, so I will consider this a success.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>EGGS, 8, with yolks and whites separated<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>SUGAR, 1\/3 cup<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>MASCARPONE, 1 pound<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>HEAVY CREAM, 1 cup<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>ESPRESSO COFFEE, 2 cups cooled<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>BRANDY, 2\/3 cup<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>LADY FINGERS, 30<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE, 2 ounces grated<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>COCOA POWDER, Dutch process, sifted, for garnish<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Mix the sugar into the egg yolks, blending well.<\/li>\n<li>Add a little Mascarpone at a time to the egg yolk mixture, and mix until smooth. Set aside.<\/li>\n<li>In a separate bowl, beat the whipping cream until stiff peaks form.
