{"id":2033,"date":"2009-10-17T10:26:13","date_gmt":"2009-10-17T16:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/?p=2033"},"modified":"2009-10-17T12:01:34","modified_gmt":"2009-10-17T18:01:34","slug":"sweet-saturday-candy-bar-blondies-experiment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/17\/sweet-saturday-candy-bar-blondies-experiment\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweet Saturday: Candy Bar Blondies Experiment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I made 3 batches of blondies hoping to create something\u00a0irresistibly\u00a0delicious. \u00a0I originally planned on making a Candy Bar Blondie with a variety of candy bars chopped into chocolate chip sized pieces. \u00a0I used a basic blondie recipe and then just replaced the chips and buts with the candy pieces.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2037\" title=\"reesesblondie7\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/reesesblondie7.jpg?resize=275%2C198\" alt=\"reesesblondie7\" width=\"275\" height=\"198\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2053\" title=\"reeses4\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/reeses4.jpg?resize=225%2C167\" alt=\"reeses4\" width=\"225\" height=\"167\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>Attempt #1 resulted in a yummy treat filled with chopped Snickers, Rolos, Reeses and Twix. \u00a0The problem was that the edges rose up on the sides and stayed there after the blondies cooled creating a sunken and sad looking baked good. \u00a0A blondie sinkhole. \u00a0I used a metal 8&#215;8 inch pan which I&#8217;d greased. \u00a0The middle of the blondies were incredibly gooey, but the edges were hard and caramelized. \u00a0Hmmm. \u00a0I decided to try again.<\/p>\n<p>Attempt #2 used the same combination of candy bars, sans the Twix because I ran out. \u00a0I tried to bake this one in a glass pan which I greased and floured. \u00a0I assumed the problem was my baking pan preparation. \u00a0Same basic recipe. \u00a0New pan. \u00a0Same problem. \u00a0Intriguing&#8230;and a tad bit frustrating.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Attempt #3. \u00a0Ok, so now it was time to take a closer look at this recipe. \u00a0The recipe I used consisted of melted butter, brown sugar, 1 egg, flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. \u00a0I looked at some other recipes and made some changes. \u00a0I still used melted butter and brown sugar, but I increased the eggs to 2, added a bit more flour, nixed the baking soda and used only chopped Reese&#8217;s cups to keep things a bit simpler. \u00a0I used a greased and sugared a glass 8&#215;8 inch dish.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2045\" title=\"reeses1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/reeses1.jpg?resize=225%2C165\" alt=\"reeses1\" width=\"225\" height=\"165\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2044\" title=\"reeses2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/reeses2.jpg?resize=225%2C183\" alt=\"reeses2\" width=\"225\" height=\"183\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2051\" title=\"reeses3\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/reeses3.jpg?resize=200%2C188\" alt=\"reeses3\" width=\"200\" height=\"188\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Still goooey in the middle with crunchy edges and tops layer, but no sinkholes in the center of the pan! \u00a0The Reese&#8217;s cups melted into the blondies and filled them with peanut-buttery goodness. \u00a0The salty-sweet peanut flavor and soft chocolate were delicious in these blondies.<\/p>\n<p>Next time I will revisit my dream of a candy bar blondie with all kinds of candy, but for now this will do.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2043\" title=\"reesesblondie1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/reesesblondie1.jpg?resize=300%2C215\" alt=\"reesesblondie1\" width=\"300\" height=\"215\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Reese&#8217;s Blondies<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>1\/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted<\/li>\n<li>1 cup brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 eggs<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon vanilla<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/4 cup flour<\/li>\n<li>3\/4 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon baking powder<\/li>\n<li>1 cup chopped Reese&#8217;s peanut butter cups (about 6 regular sized) + 2 extra Reese&#8217;s cups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Grease and sugar an 8&#215;8 inch glass baking pan.<\/li>\n<li>Beat melted butter and sugar in a medium bowl until well combined. \u00a0Add in eggs, one at a time, and beat well. \u00a0Mix in vanilla.<\/li>\n<li>Add in flour, salt, baking powder and mix until combined.<\/li>\n<li>Fold Reese&#8217;s cups into batter, and pour into prepared pan.<\/li>\n<li>Chop or slice the extra Reese&#8217;s and lay them on the top of the batter, pressing slightly.<\/li>\n<li>Bake at 350\u00b0\u00a0for 25-30 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0;float:none;height:70px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/17\/sweet-saturday-candy-bar-blondies-experiment\/\" send=\"false\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"400\" show_faces=\"true\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I made 3 batches of blondies hoping to create something\u00a0irresistibly\u00a0delicious. \u00a0I originally planned on making a Candy Bar Blondie with a variety of candy bars chopped into chocolate chip sized pieces. \u00a0I used a basic blondie recipe and then just replaced the chips and buts with the candy pieces.
