{"id":6051,"date":"2014-04-26T14:14:33","date_gmt":"2014-04-26T20:14:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/?p=6051"},"modified":"2014-04-26T14:14:33","modified_gmt":"2014-04-26T20:14:33","slug":"ham-and-vegetable-fried-rice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/26\/ham-and-vegetable-fried-rice\/","title":{"rendered":"Ham And Vegetable Fried Rice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of this week I was working on the last of our\u00a0Easter ham and originally thought that the idea of putting it in a fried rice was a little odd. \u00a0But this wound up being a really tasty dinner and one that comes together pretty quickly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6053 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice1.jpg?resize=858%2C1297\" alt=\"Ham and Vegetable Fried Rice | Hottie Biscotti\" width=\"858\" height=\"1297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice1.jpg?w=932 932w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice1.jpg?resize=198%2C300 198w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice1.jpg?resize=677%2C1024 677w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 858px) 100vw, 858px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/food-network-kitchens\/fried-rice-recipe2.html\" target=\"_blank\">This recipe<\/a> from The Food Network was the one I followed, changing up a few things here and there. \u00a0I used less vegetable oil and added some sesame oil, added more vegetables and added some plain soy sauce and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.traderjoes.com\/fearless-flyer\/article.asp?article_id=1096\" target=\"_blank\">Soyaki sauce from Trader Joes<\/a>. \u00a0Since no two people like their stir fries exactly the same, you can change up the vegetables and the amount and type of extra sauce you use. \u00a0When I served this I put a bottle of soy sauce on the table and Ben added a little more to his while I was happy without it. \u00a0Serving this with a bottle of sriracha as well wouldn&#8217;t be a bad idea if you want some heat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6054 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice2.jpg?resize=858%2C1090\" alt=\"Ham and Vegetable Fried Rice | Hottie Biscotti\" width=\"858\" height=\"1090\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice2.jpg?w=1000 1000w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice2.jpg?resize=236%2C300 236w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice2.jpg?resize=806%2C1024 806w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 858px) 100vw, 858px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A wok is ideal for cooking a stir fry, but you can use a large skillet. \u00a0This wok is a cheap one from IKEA and has served me well for the last couple of years. \u00a0Make sure to prep everything ahead of time. \u00a0Cut all the vegetables and meat, whisk the eggs, and have the rice ready to add the pan. \u00a0Once you start cooking a stir fry it comes together fast, and you don&#8217;t want to get flustered or burn something while you grab something you&#8217;ve forgotten.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6056 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice4.jpg?resize=858%2C1282\" alt=\"Ham and Vegetable Fried Rice | Hottie Biscotti\" width=\"858\" height=\"1282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice4.jpg?w=1000 1000w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice4.jpg?resize=200%2C300 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hamfriedrice4.jpg?resize=685%2C1024 685w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 858px) 100vw, 858px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a little bit of a cheater stir fry since you&#8217;re using a bag of frozen veggies instead of fresh, but it sure does help shave off some prep time! \u00a0And it&#8217;s still better for you than ordering take-out. \u00a0Enjoy.<\/p>\n<h3>Ham and Vegetable Stir Fry<\/h3>\n<p>Adapted from<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/food-network-kitchens\/fried-rice-recipe2.html\" target=\"_blank\"> Food Network<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Ingredients<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2-3 tablespoons vegetable or peanut oil, divided<\/li>\n<li>5 teaspoons sesame oil, divided<\/li>\n<li>3 cups cooked, chopped ham<\/li>\n<li>1 onion, diced<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons minced ginger<\/li>\n<li>4 garlic cloves, minced<\/li>\n<li>4 green onions, sliced, white and green parts separated<\/li>\n<li>salt<\/li>\n<li>1 16-ounce bag frozen stir fry vegetables<\/li>\n<li>3 eggs, beaten<\/li>\n<li>3-4 cups cooked Jasmine rice<\/li>\n<li>soy sauce to taste<\/li>\n<li>Soyaki sauce to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Directions<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat wok or skillet over high heat, add in 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil and 2 teaspoon of sesame oil. \u00a0Add in ham and cook, stirring or shaking pan occasionally, until ham is lightly browned.<\/li>\n<li>Add in the chopped onion and cook until it starts to become translucent. \u00a0Then add in the garlic, ginger, and the whites of the scallions and a pinch or two of salt. \u00a0Stir fry for about 1 minute.<\/li>\n<li>Add in the frozen vegetables and stir everything together, then cover for 1-2 minutes. \u00a0Stir again until vegetables are just about defrosted. \u00a0Transfer everything to a large bowl.<\/li>\n<li>Wipe the pan clean, then return to medium-high heat and add 1 teaspoon each vegetable and sesame oil to the pan. \u00a0Add in the eggs and scramble until almost set. \u00a0Remove from the pan to the bowl with the vegetables and ham.<\/li>\n<li>Wipe the pan clean and return to high heat. \u00a0Add 2 teaspoons vegetable oil and 2 teaspoons sesame oil. \u00a0Add the rice and break up any large pieces. \u00a0Let cook without stirring for 2 minutes, then add in the vegetables, ham and eggs. \u00a0Cook everything together and add some of the soy and\/or Soyaki sauce to taste. \u00a0I added almost a tablespoon of each. \u00a0Serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0;float:none;height:70px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/26\/ham-and-vegetable-fried-rice\/\" send=\"false\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"400\" show_faces=\"true\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of this week I was working on the last of our\u00a0Easter ham and originally thought that the idea of putting it in a fried rice was a little odd. \u00a0But this wound up being a really tasty dinner and one that comes together pretty quickly.
