The nest came first, of course, in the top corner of our deck.  Then 5 little speckled eggs.  Then the eggs hatched and I was the proud mother of 5 precious barn swallows.  The real mother isn&#8217;t too happy with me spying on her children every day.  She rallies her bird friends and they dive bomb me when I try to look in the nest.  I have managed to get a few pictures.  I had to do a little research to figure out what kind of birds they were&#8230;I&#8217;m not a Orthinologist afterall, just a teacher!  I&#8217;m pretty sure that they&#8217;re barn swallows based on this info from Bird of Texas website.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt\"><u><span style=\"color: blue\">Field Marks<\/span><\/u>: This bird is about 6 \u00be\u201d in length.<span>  <\/span>Adults of both sexes have dark bluish back, dark wings, long, deeply forked tail.<span>  <\/span>The males have rusty or buff under parts and a chestnut throat and forehead.<span>  <\/span>Females and Immature are similar but paler.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt\"><u><span style=\"color: blue\">Voice<\/span><\/u>: Song complex combines clear notes, twitters, and gurgles.<span>  <\/span>The call is a soft wit wit or emphatic slip slip.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt\"><u><span style=\"color: blue\">Where found<\/span><\/u>: Breeds from Alaska across Canada to Newfoundland south through the United States. These birds winter in South America.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt\"><u><span style=\"color: blue\">Texas<\/span><\/u>:<span>  <\/span>Migrant (Mar. \u2013 June, July \u2013 Nov) throughout.<span>  <\/span>Winters occasionally along the Texas coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt\"><u><span style=\"color: blue\">Habitat<\/span><\/u>: Open country, farms, fields, marshes, lakes, etc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt\"><u><span style=\"color: blue\">Nest<\/span><\/u>: An open mud cup lined with feathers, on ledge, bridge, beam, or building.<span>  <\/span>Eggs (3-5) speckled.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/bird2.JPG\" title=\"bird2.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/bird2.JPG?w=858\" alt=\"bird2.JPG\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are my sweet swallows!<\/p>\n<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0;float:none;height:70px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/www.hottie-biscotti.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/27\/baby-birdies\/\" send=\"false\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"400\" show_faces=\"true\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every morning and afternoon for the last 3 weeks I have checked on my babies&#8230;my baby birds.
