Birthday Girl

We had Betsy’s party today!  It was great.  Of course not everything I had planned happened the way I’d planned it, but that’s just the way life goes.

Unfortunately Lindsey woke up not feeling well.  To make a long story short, my dad ended up driving Lindsey and the boys to Centerville, halfway to Dallas, where Scott picked them up.  Then he drove the rental car back to Hobby airport and Ben picked him up there.  My dad had to miss the party, and so did Lindsey and the boys.  And I ended up going to a small group meeting without Ben.  But I am thankful that we got to see Lindsey and the boys, even for just a little while, and that my dad was able to help get there where they needed to be safely and that no one else got sick.  That was the miracle of the weekend!

There were quite a few people at the party and a lot of young kids, which made things a little wild!  My parents, Kate and Steve, Sarah and Lane, Claire and Daniel, Carrie (sadly without Jason and the girls), Jean and Travis, The Warrens, Mackenzies, Autreys, Mullins, Richeys, Baumbachs, and Jones.  What a blessing to have such wonderful family and friends who made the effort to come and celebrate with us!  Betsy enjoyed it and did well with the birthday cake.  Of course I forgot to light her candle, but we did sing “Happy Birthday” which is something I almost forgot to do at Carson’s first birthday party.  Thanks to Lindsey for suggesting it before I gave him the cake!  We all need people in our lives to help us when our brains fail!  I have (and need!) a lot of those people.

Poor Carson woke up from his nap around 3:30, the party started at 3.  He has a little bit of a cold, and in addition to not feeling great there were a bunch of kids here, so he wasn’t the happiest child during the party.  He found his happy place outside and later upstairs with “aunt” Carrie.  Once everyone left he was in a much better mood.  It makes me sure that he doesn’t need a big birthday party in November.
