It is January 1, 2015!  Happy New Year!  I am trying my best to finish the last two weeks of 2014 today.  Unfortunately it all seems like a blur, especially the past 10 days, as I go through pictures on my phone and try to piece together what happened over the last couple of weeks.  It also feels like much longer ago than just 2 weeks, so I am sure I am forgetting something important, but I think I’ve got the highlights.

I ran a little daycare on Monday morning!  Carson and Betsy enjoyed having Cooper and Graham over and took great naps after such a busy and fun morning.

This week at school was the last for Carson before Christmas break.  They did some fun things this week and Carson has learned quite a few Christmas songs that he’ll sometimes sing for us.  Christmas this year is different because Carson now kind of gets Santa, and he’s more aware and interested in it all.  I’m trying my best to emphasize that Jesus is the real reason we celebrate, and so often when we talk about Santa and gifts and all that I ask him who was born on Christmas.  He pretty much always says, “baby Jesus!” and I’m hoping that in the years to come he’ll understand the importance of that.  We also have a couple of nativities that they play with and we’ll talk about who everyone is.  Unfortunately with a 2 and a 4 year old all the pieces are hardly ever there at the same time.  I found a donkey and a sheep in the bathtub the other day.

He and Betsy both love Jingle Bells and after hearing “Wonderful Christmastime” on the radio in the car this week they were both hooked and asked to hear it again.  Carson sings, “sleep in heaven, wonderful Christmastime” instead of “simply having, a wonderful Christmastime”.  I don’t correct him.  Betsy loves candy canes (eating and seeing them) and all the lights and decorations.  I loved watching them both enjoy this season.

The girls had one last wine and cheese night before Shallan and Christian moved to Boerne.  It was a lot of fun but sad to think that things won’t be the same.  We love you, Van Kleefs!

Carrie and I went to an event Claire was a part of on Thursday night and afterward we had drinks and dinner at Hay Merchant.  It was so much fun.  Ben, you’re a great husband and dad.  Thanks for letting me go.

Carson had his 4-year well check on Friday.  He did so much better than last year!  He got on the scale to be weighed, stepped back to be measured, got his blood pressure checked and everything all without crying.  When they did the hearing test instead of holding up his hands to let her know he heard the noise he’d just look up and whisper, “I hear something!”  He bombed the eye test, but I’m fairly confident he was just too distracted.  He had to get 3 shots, but he was a trooper.

We met Ben for lunch after that.

We saw Claire again on Saturday morning for a late breakfast.

That afternoon we decorated our gingerbread house.

On Sunday after church Ben and Carson went to see the Texans!  Ben said it was a little loud for Carson but that they had a good time.

That night we had family Christmas.  Carson loved his gifts but when Betsy opened her puppy he forgot all about his gifts and just wanted hers.  It took a while for him to calm down.  The newness wore off after a couple days and they haven’t fought over it since then.
