Christopher: 6 Months

Third children sure do get the shaft!  Sorry, Christopher.

52-52-6

So far I have only written a 1 month post for him.  I started a 2 and a 4 month post, but those remain drafts that aren’t likely to be finished at this point.  Thankfully I documented that time in weekly posts, so all is not lost.

At Christopher’s 6 month check-up he was 27.5 inches tall (77%), 16 pounds 2 ounces (18%) and had a 17 inch head (31%).  People usually overestimate how old he is because he is long, but he is pretty skinny.  He doesn’t have any pudgy rolls, which is kind of sad.  I love baby rolls.

He is wearing some 6 month things, but often busts the snaps of his 6 month sleepers.  So 9 month things, while a bit roomy, are mostly what I’ll be buying and putting him in now.

He is rolling both ways.  He wiggles his way around and helicopters very well.  He adores the bouncer.  I predict crawling in 4-6 weeks.

He has a sweet smile and is very social.  He has a great laugh and loves Carson and Betsy.  They do a great job loving on him and once he can keep up they are going to have a terrific time together.

Like most babies he puts any and everything in his mouth.  He has a real love for long hair, which I forget sometimes until I wear mine down and he puts a death grip on it and starts chewing.  Necklaces.  Also something I rarely wear these days.

We recently decided to have his blocked tear duct probed.  They did the procedure last week and it’s improved but isn’t free of eye goop yet.  It was a tough decision to make, but I’m glad we did it.

He’s been eating solids for all three main meals for about a month now.  Pears, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, apples, zucchini and peaches.  He also eats mum mums like Carson and Betsy did.  Those things are a mess, but a really great way to get him used to chewing without worrying about him choking.

Christopher isn’t sleeping through the night yet.  He gets up in the morning between 6:30 and 7:30.  He takes a morning nap around 9, usually 1 1/2 to 2 hours long.  I put him down for his afternoon nap between 1 and 2.  That nap is about the same length as the morning nap.  Sometimes he’ll take a third in the late afternoon if he’d gotten up especially early.  After dinner and bath he goes to bed between 6:30 and 7.  Then he’s up around midnight, and again around 3 or 4.  I only feed him the first time he wakes, unless (like happens sometimes) he’s up crying for an hour at the 3 or 4am waking and it just ends up being easier to feed him than to set the timer every 15 minutes.

He is sleeping unswaddled now.  Since I haven’t been keeping up with his monthly updates I don’t remember exactly when I stopped doing that.  I think at the beginning of the year?  He sleeps with a pacifier, so when he does wake up sometimes I think he has a hard time going back to sleep if he can’t find it.  Maybe I need to throw a few in his crib so that it’s easier for (and me!).

I took some pictures yesterday, so in these he is just 4 days away from being an official 7 month old.  He likes the camera!  It’s either the little light on the front or the sound it makes, but it makes him smile.
