Tonight we had movie and popcorn night! We watch movies a lot, so that’s not very special. But moving the coffee table, putting a blanket on the ground and popping popcorn makes it way more fun. I hope to start some simple traditions like this with our kids, things they’ll remember when they’re adults and maybe even continue with their own kids.
As a kid I remember root beer float nights when we used these great soda fountain glasses, popcorn for dinner on some Sunday evenings, and at Christmas we would have hot chocolate and eat little Debbie Christmas tree cakes. I always buy a box at Christmastime now as an adult. I’m not sure how often we actually did these things, but they really stick out to me. I love those memories. I wonder how amazing they were for my parents, though, if they even remember. All of that has made me realize that trying to start traditions that my kids will remember might not be up to me, but instead it will be what they end up liking to do and what their minds end up storing as worth remembering. I’ll remember them doing this, though…I hope!
