As I write this I am over a month behind on these posts.  How does this happen?!

I don’t remember much about what brought this moment about since it was so long ago, but they were wrestling and I’m almost certain they should’ve been in bed.  I cannot seem to get them in to bed on time very often.  I should know by now that I have to start the process an hour before I want them to actually be in bed, but there is just not enough time in the day!

In general life has been just fine for us recently, nothing terrible and nothing amazing…except that a case that was keeping Ben incredibly busy settled a few weeks ago and he has been around much more, which is so wonderful for him and especially for us.

Now, in an effort to just be able to post pictures for the remaining days I’ve missed I’m going to do a quick update on the kids…

Carson continues to love school, but we are struggling on and off at home.  He and I are butting heads pretty much daily.  But we have our good moments, too.  He earned a “Courage” award at school last week, which is so great considering that he isn’t always naturally courageous.  His curiosity is in full force right now, asking questions about everything.  It’s great of course, like explaining open and closed circuits to him in the car on the way to school last week, and seeing him learn and make connections and be excited about stuff. But sometimes I just want to (and sometime even do) say, “no more questions about the thermostat or the carbon monoxide detectors!”

Betsy is a joy right now and I’m trying to capture every minute of it since there will come a time when she doesn’t like me quite as much as she does right now.  I hope it’s a long way off!  She is such a goofball, she loves to get dirty, and the other day she just pulled off her skirt and underwear and peed in the backyard…something Carson still refuses to do.  I’m not sure what we’re going to do with her come teenage years.  The other day I was putting her to bed and she was complaining about the boogers in her nose.  I squeezed her nose a few times (barehanded, I know it’s gross but sometimes you just have to do it) and I got more than I bargained for!  It was not a small booger for such a small nose.  She was so excited, “Make sure to tell dad about my big booger!” which of course I did.

Christopher is driving me crazy!  He earned the nickname “honey badger” from us a while back, but I’m beginning to wonder if we should’ve chosen something else because he is really living up to the name now and it is basically impossible to get through 10 minutes of his waking hours without getting him to climb down from a table, the counter, or all the way up the outside of the staircase.  He is also a huge fan of “no” currently (almost always with a big grin) which has meant we’ve had to discipline him more…no fun for him…or us.  When I have to take him down or away from something and while I’m holding him, telling him he can’t climb on that or play with the paring knives (this really happened) he will hug me around the neck, sweetly pat my back and say “oh, good mommy” which then just makes me smile and not be quite as upset with him.  Being cute is a great defense mechanism, kid.

And so now that I’m pretty much caught up with the family stuff I’m going to just post pictures for the next 30-plus days and hopefully not get this far behind ever again.
