Carson: 2 1/2 Years

What a fun 2 and 1/2 years we’ve had with this guy!

5-14-13

We went to dinner the other day and while we were sitting there at the table, Betsy making a mess with her food and banging on the table, Carson playing with his toy cars and banging on the table to copy Betsy, I thought how different our life would be without kids.  We might be on a European vacation (like some friends of ours are) or something more simple, like eating out without worrying about going at 5pm, and making sure we go someplace that has french fries.  I would not be as tired, as out of shape or as likely to be in my pajamas at noon, but I would also not be as happy.  I would laugh a lot less and not have learned how to stop being so concerned with myself and learn to put others needs before my own desires (although that is definitely still a work in progress.)  I love our kids and am so thankful for them.

Carson is hilarious.  He talks all the time and points out everything he sees.  He is sweet, but has his rough moments just like any kid does.  He loves to be outside and almost always prefers to be with someone than by himself, even if he ends up playing alone.  If he goes outside or goes upstairs to play, he wants someone to come with him.  He loves Betsy, which makes me happy.  I am sure I am leaving something out!  We love him and think he is really special.

Funny things I want to remember.

  • He’s started to say things like, “Don’t hit me!” or “Don’t push me!” which are things I know I have said to him.  Ben was taking him out of the car seat the other day and he said, “Don’t press my buttons!”.  I am fairly confident that I have never said that.
  • At the breakfast table he was telling us how dark it was in the bed and something about a bear and a tunnel.  Ben and I were both pretty interested in the story.  Then he says, “That’s a problem.”
  • He’s taken a liking to a baby doll I got him before Betsy was born.  He says things like, “Let’s go night night, baby.”  and “It’s ok, it’s ok.” while patting the baby on the back.
  • He gets this crazy deep laugh when he sees Betsy either when I bring her downstairs after she gets up or if she’s downstairs and I bring him down.  Betsy grins like crazy.
  • He calls sprinkles on donuts “treats”.  I corrected him the first time he did it and told them they were sprinkles.  So now he’ll call them treats and then say “No, they’re called sprinkles!”
  • Sometimes when we hold him he’ll grab our faces and shake them up and down and say, “Yes, yes, yes!” and then shake them side to side and say, “No, no, no!”.

Here is a bunch of information you may or may not care about, but I want to remember it so here it is!

  • He weighs 34 pounds.
  • He wears 3T.
  • He is still in diapers, wearing a size 6 like a champ!
  • He has absolutely no interest in using the potty.  None.
  • He sleeps 11 hours every night, going to bed around 8 and getting up around 7.
  • He naps for 3 hours or so every afternoon.
  • He cannot sleep without his blanket.
  • He eats a banana every morning for breakfast along with cereal or pancakes, sometimes scrambled eggs.
  • His favorite snacks are raisins and fruit snacks.
  • His favorite food is french fries…dipped in ketchup.
  • His favorite toys are cars, trucks, etc.
  • His favorite show is Umi Zoomi.
